I put out a request to send in some testimonials about how CrossFit, Chris, and/or our gym have impacted your life and health. The very first response is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to receive. I feel like there is an assumption amongst outsiders that unless you are 20-30, already fit, and highly athletic that CrossFit isn't for you. This couldn't be more incorrect. CrossFit is for absolutely anyone who wants to get healthier and stronger. Tracey Lauer is a 48 year old mother and teacher who admits that "the first time I walked through these doors I was scared to death and so nervous I was a bit sick to my stomach." She soon discovered that she was thankful for not listening to her fears and instead gave CrossFit TYL a try, read her full story below:
"For over a year I stalked the TYL website and facebook page wanting to gain the courage to give it a try. Then my son prodded me to come give CrossFit a try. He had been a TYL member for over a year and loved it. He must have seen something in me and/or CrossFit that would be a good fit. Well I hate to admit it, but he was right. Here I am, this 48 year old woman, who is now considered an athlete. Who me?!
I look forward to getting up in the morning, working my rear off, challenging myself, and digging deep within myself to do things I never thought I would be able to do. Every day I walk in the door feeling welcomed and comfortable working out side by side with people of all ages and abilities. We support each other here. Yes, we have maybe become a bit of a little family. And every day I leave with a great sense of pride and accomplishment. What a great way to start your day.
I will admit the first time I walked through these doors I was scared to death and so nervous I was a bit sick to my stomach. I do believe when Chris welcomed me right before the start of my first WOD I pleaded, "Please don't kill this old lady." I have had sore muscles in areas I had forgotten existed, pushed myself harder than ever before, and maybe a time or two thought I might pass out. But in about seven weeks I have now noticed less flab and more tone in my body. It's not just your body that gets stronger, but my mind seems a bit clearer and focused. I'm in less of a 48 year old female fog these days.
I finally did it. I allowed myself to put myself at the top of my list after 27 years. I decided this is my time.
I absolutely love what CrossFit TYL has done for me. If you are on the fence, come on out and give the free week a try. What do you have to lose? Better yet, what do you have to gain?"
